According to Google, success is defined as the achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted. To some, it could be reaching their dream job and to others, it can be reaching a certain status among their peers. Just because someone defines their success differently does not and should not invalidate yours.
Comparing your success to others distracts you from focusing on your own success and only brings about displeasure, confusion, and setbacks.
When you are taking the time out of your busy day to improve and educate yourself— that is a success! Many forget that exercising your brain is just as important as exercising any other muscle. When we remember to care for ourselves we’re succeeding.
One of the most significant things we do is evolve.
We grow and change whether that change is negative or positive is up to you. We are provided with these tools that for many, quite often go unused. But, they are key to honing your power and succeeding in life.
3 tools to help define your success
These tools are intertwined, each one works together and are always at your disposal
1. Self-reflection

If we don't take a careful look at ourselves how will we know what to improve? We won't. That's when our brain goes into autopilot, bad habits stay, and not much growth occurs.
You make the same bad choices over and over again.
Being your own critic isn't harmful, it's when it becomes excessive it consumes you. Give yourself some grace, you're still only learning.
Using reflection, we can build self-awareness. You become more conscious of the decisions you’re making.
When you reflect daily, you stay aware of what is important to you. You can start self-reflecting by writing in a journal or even your notes app. Remind yourself what you want to accomplish by the end of the day, week, or month.
Also simply talk about your day and how certain events made you feel or how you want to feel.
When you take a serious look at your life and focus on the present, it’s the best way to plan for the future. You take notice of negative habits and can stop them from festering.
Your positive habits start improving and becoming more prominent. You can start focusing on your goals and finding out what does and doesn't align with you.
You can grow into the person you want to be.
2. Mindfulness

Mindfulness is being aware of the present moment.
Feeling every piece of you in a relaxed state. This can quiet your mind because you’re focusing on what is and not what isn’t. It's a way to clear your mind and release stress. With a clear mind, you could focus on what's important to you. It’s worth remembering that when being mindful you aren’t judging yourself or your actions.
You simply are being.
While you're taking a shower, cooking, or before you go to bed, remind yourself who you are and what you're working towards. Even if you don't necessarily know what's going on right now (a lot of us don’t).
Still, remind yourself you're in control. You hijacked this boat and you're the captain now!!
Everything you need to take control of your life is already within you. Realize that the life you want is yours to create. It's all about finding what works for you.
You can be mindful by:
Mediating
Repeating affirmations
Putting all your focus on a task
Talking to your inner voice
You can do this any time throughout your day.
Try to practice mindfulness any chance you get.
3. Self Discipline

This is the one right here!
I know it's not fun doing things you don't want to, especially when they feel intimidating or time-consuming. But, I promise it will all be worth it in the end when you accomplish the goals you set for yourself.
You have to start somewhere.
Then just take it day by day.
When you set your mind towards a goal, stick to it. Whatever you do you have to put some type of effort towards it. It boils down to what you’re putting that effort into because the time will pass either way. It’s not going to be easy. That's just the way the game of life works.
Self-discipline is what's going to keep you going no matter what. Not motivation and definitely not your feelings.
Those can only take you so far and need time to recharge. Even if this means taking baby steps every day. Your effort will add up and eventually you’ll be taking big kid steps and you won’t need your pull-ups anymore. Sometimes the math do be mathing.
This might be easier to apply for some over others (it was hard as hell for me). But you hold immense power within you and when you start focusing on it, the easier it is to hone it.
A great way to build self-discipline is by sticking to a morning routine. It's not the only way, but it’s a start. Starting your morning off right can set the tone for the rest of the day. If you can push yourself to stick to this for at least 2 weeks, your mindset will begin to adapt and you will want to keep going.
Saying no to temptation is hard. But living an unhappy life is hard too.
Your hard todays make for the best tomorrows.

Summary

You can prepare for the future by knowing your present. Start small and ask yourself: What does success mean to me? What can be done right now to put me closer to my dreams?
Practice reflection and mindfulness daily. Be aware of your actions.
Know that you are what you do, not what you say you’ll do.
What your success looks like will truly only make sense to you, and that's okay! What you are reaching for should be for your own fulfillment and pleasure.
